Ka’Ena Point Natural Area
Oahu, HI
On April 9, 2026, Kim and I hiked to the Ka’Ena Point Natural area from the north shore parking area. This was a beautiful and remote hike (we saw only two other people). The first portion of the hike is mostly the “Coastal Hiking Trail” that weaves just inland from the beach with a high mountain ridge away from the water. Eventually we reach a predator-proof fence with a gate that allowed us to enter the reserve area. Here we saw many birds, including Laysan Albatross, up close before reaching the strongly wind-swept coral beach at the very tip of the point. This was a great and fun wilderness-feeling hike on a coolish windy day (with rainstorms staying at bay).
